The following is a list of local health and human service agencies that are looking for volunteers. The agencies listed below are not all United Way agencies. This is a service that the United Way of South Central Nebraska provides to assist area agencies and volunteers to get connected.  To add your agencies volunteer needs, please call the United Way at 402-461-8412. 

 

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters are looking for volunteers to mentor a child, either at their school or by doing activities out in the community.  Teen volunteers needed to help with fundraising events.  Male volunteers are needed for mentoring.  Please call 402 463-5652 to learn more about this opportunity.

 

Boy Scouts of America  Adult Volunteers are needed to help with a new hispanic Cub Scout Pack.  If you're interested in becoming involved in scouting, please contact Heather Bolte at 402 463-0488.

 

CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocates are looking for volunteers in Adams, Clay, Nuckolls and Webster counties to provide advocacy for a child in court who has been abused or neglected.  Please call 402 463-1030 for more information.

 

Catholic Social Services is looking for volunteers to help with food recovery program. Volunteer individuals or groups are needed to help pack sack lunches.   Positions are open for experienced cashiers at the thrift store and strong men to help with picking up donations. Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska would like a volunteer to answer the telephone and do light cleaning.  Call 402 463-7679.

 

Foster Grandparent Program is looking for people 55 and over who enjoy working with children.  Volunteers will be placed in schools, child care centers and Head Start programs.   A modest stipend is available for those who qualify.  For more information about the program, please call 402 463-1440.

Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers to deliver meals to the elderly or shut-ins.  Accepting qualified drivers to deliver meals.  A car is a must.  Please call 402 463-5900.

 

Mid-Rivers Red Cross is looking for volunteers to help with the weekly bloodmobile as greeters, canteen workers, escorts and clean-up.  We are also in need of disaster responders to assist with local disasters.  Disaster classes are provided at no cost to anyone interested in helping out.  Volunteers are needed in Adams, Clay, Nuckolls and Webster counties.  Please call 402 461-2374 for more information.

Volunteer - HASTINGS!  Is a group of coordinators, managers and supervisors who meet monthly to discuss management practices and create volunteer accessibility for the needs of the agencies in Hastings.  We meet for a round-table discussion on volunteer projects, disaster relief and recovery and management training on the second Tuesday of every month, except for July and December, in the Community Room at Crossroads.  If you work with volunteers or need volunteers, this is the place for you.
